Having read a good article in Zurban, I went to this restaurant "le p'tit panisse" rue de montreuil in Paris, with the intentionof treating a friend well for her birthday. First of all we did not like the way we were welcomed by the "boss/owner" (who did not seem to participate in the cooking but just stood along glancing) and a with some heavy comments (when we mentioned we would have like a nice table for my friend's birthday. We felt he expected that the simple fact to be have the honour to go in his restaurant should be enough in itself and this privilege was not authorize us to mention anything else. The waiter even accompanied us to a table which he called a "VIP table" in an ironical way.

I then mentioned some big children cuddly toy standing below my feet which the waiter sent away with his feet, toward a labrador spleeping 2 meters far from our table. It did not seem very hygienic to us. My friend asked me if I wanted to go but I suspected she asked in order to please me and knowing she was hungry I did not want to bother and said that if she wanted to stay we may as well stay. Then she agreed thinking it was pleasing me...When the first dish arrived the thick tomato slice was presenting some damage like a patch of mould on the side and I cut it but it was so visible that it seemed carelessness to have not seen it in the "cuisine".

We then took the "coquilles St Jacques Provencales" (5 St Jacques with a light red sauce without taste that we definished as "insipid" regretting that the savour was not reinforced for such a dish who has little taste if not well seasoned. The very few carrots and courgettes bits were very good though. While being served by the waiter, I noticed a lady watching behind my friend's shoulder insistently and wondered why this customer seemed a bit puzzled and observing without discretion (so much that my friend has guessed what had taking place behind her) and rather in a non friendly way. Then, I saw the same person holding dishes and concluded that she was also from the restaurant, maybe also the owner as she wore no uniform like.

And last but not the least, when we asked what kind of tarts were presented near us on a buffet, it seemed a rather boring matter for the man who seemed to be the owner, who granted us with a disabused answer :"rhubaaarrrbbbeeuuh et abbriicoooot...". The rhubarb tart not even being indicated on the desserts of the day table. I chose that dessert and my friend chose a "clafouti aux poires". My friend complained that it was a small part but the lady informed said that it was enough big for a menu with St Jacques and therefore that we should not complain...Then my friend effectively not complained as she said it was full of water and not good taste.

On my side the rhubarb tart was burned at the "bottom" and I could only eat the non tasty garniture. When the waiter came he took my plate with the very black pastry and made no comment but it was obvious something was wrong ! We payed, without smiling and made no final comments.

Sorry for the long comment, I'd rather say something nice but I have often said nothing about the many deceptive restaurants of Paris, many of which just do business and do not have the cuisine and people in mind.
