Reports and weekly winners
12/06/05: Great
turnout last night, and a closely contested quiz. Three teams within
half a point and the winners were Polymaths. Well done them. Keep
up with updates on rules etc on the message
board.
15/5/05: OK, no report
from week two, though the scores had improved over week 1. Week
three has got the level right I think. There are new rules: There will
only
be
four
geographical questions in each round and three general questions.
Teams with more than four members may compete for the prizes on the
night
as long as they stump up the entrance fee (1€) for all the people
at their table. HOWEVER: In the league their score for the night will
be reduced by 2 points for every member over four (teams scoring
less than half the winning score on the night do not suffer this
penalty).
My suggestion is that you form more teams guys. After all, the
prizes come in fours.
What's the point? Surely winning with seven team members is a hollow
victory.
If anyone who does the quiz wants to
make any comments, join the message
board and make them. I'd be particularly
interested in your comments on the penalties for oversized teams.
Should they be penalised on the night as well? Should there be
a league bonus
for teams of less than 4? Is two points too lenient? Controversy
will reign!
Adam's Apple, I've decided to give
you the full point for King Tut. The polo answer was also right for
Eden Gardens. I should have specified the Ranji Stadium. Can you let
me know via the message board who the team was who said Polo?
If any of these teams are the same
team masquerading asdifferent names, let me know via the message
board.
League leaders this week are: Strange
Carnage (Winner of the last two weeks, though in the last quiz they
were docked 5 points (one of them turned up half way through)).
1/5/05: Well it was a tough one.
But almost all the questions were answered by somebody. Still I'd like
to
see that winning score getting closer to 25-30, so I'll see what I
can do about that... However, well done to the Polymaths for winning
the
first Auld Alliance Quiz in
a closely
fought
contest. Winners of the bonus questions were The Commune with 2 and
The Anzacs with one. The Commune was by himself, so that was a handy
evening's
work! The Infantry arrived late (where have I heard that before) and
only took part in the last three rounds. Look forward to seeing everyone
next week! Jim
